No sleep 'til...

This baby doesn't sleep, and when he does, his breathing is so loud and scary that neither of us sleep. Our ped. thinks his trachia-flap (I do NOT like to think about a baby's trachia flap) of cartilage isn't fully formed yet, so it keeps "flapping" and restricting his airwaves when he's sleeping on his back. No bigs, she says. It will firm up on its own eventually. That kind of seems like a big deal to me! Besides, I don't think that's actually his problem. I'm not really sure what it is, but his shrieking breathing is freaking us all out to the point of insomnia.

Also, he cries. Oh, he cries, cries, cries. Why? Who knows. Whatever happened to that sweet, mellow baby we brought back from the hospital? I'd like him back, please.

Oh man, we're tired.

Um, yeah, that would freak me out too. Simone's breathing was horrific when she was an infant, but that's because her lungs were compromised by a ventricular septal defect (VSD) in her heart that was later corrected. I'm certainly not implying that's what's going on with your little guy, but have you thought about a second opinion? It would be great to go see a pediatrician associated with the local children's hospital if there's one in your area. I'd feel more comfortable with a chest x-ray just to make sure his lungs aren't wet.

I hear you on the tiredness. It does sound like you'd rest easier with more info about what is going on with your boy. Meanwhile is there a way you can safely swaddle him on his side maybe?

When my guy was a newborn, he had terrible sounding breathing at night (because he was flat on his back) and the ped said it was a bit of amniotic fluid in the lungs and "no big deal." Yeah, right! It sounded like he was choking to death all night long! We had him elevated on an incline thingy for a while and it helped a little. I feel for you!

Oh do we understand. We have much crying over here also. Gas and general cranky-time I think. Ever so tiring.
Does his breathing sound so bad when he's sitting up? Maybe have him sleep in a bouncy seat (car seat, or one of those incline sleepers)?
