The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore

Well, it makes occasional stops. Like, weekend service or something. S.'s milk is still not all there, but there is milk, so that is the positive thing, and Theo is getting some breastmilk right now. We're going to the camp where our hospital lactation consultant is working right now (yes, we're so desperate we're driving to her) to check things out. In the meantime, by the graciousness of a wonderful close friend of ours, S. has started taking an rx that is supposed to increase milk supply. We're all crossing our fingers hoping this will be it, that she just needs a little boost and Theo and Mamas will be happy. Because no one is really very happy at the moment. I am happy to say, though, that while he may be restless and scream his head off during the day, he's been pretty good (cross fingers, knock-on-wood) at night, giving us a 3-4 hour stretch before we hear his little lips smacking after his last feeding.

I just don't want my baby to be hungry, or my baby mama to feel inadequate, because her dedication to Theo and breastfeeding is so amazing. So many women would have just thrown in the towel by now. Even though it's emotionally and physically draining, she's hanging in there hoping things will work out. And if not--we will resign ourselves to it, pick up the pieces, and move forward.

Things will slowly get better, I promise. We now have a 5 month old and to be honest the first 3 months were a nightmare! Now life is sweet once again.

Stick to it, grrrls. And remember that any choices you end up making are not about inadaquacy, which I don't know how to spell right now. They are just choices about being a parent. It sounds like if he's sleeping stretches of four hours, that he's getting some good nourishment! All hail the Lactation Consultants of the world. I hope she helps.

Kudos for working so hard. You are both such good moms. I hope the milk issues pass quickly and you go on to years of nipple latch love. Congratulations on such a gorgeous babe!

I've been following your blog since a fellow MHC alum told me about it when I was pregnant (we had almost the same due dates). On my time off I was able to read back through all of your posts and have really enjoyed it. I just made my own blog and have figured out how to post comments so I'm delurking to say congrats on the birth of Theo (He's ADORABLE) and I really hope that things get better with the breast feeding. You guys are awesome for sticking with it so far. I was about ready to give up the first week also but that was because I had too much milk and was engorged and in pain what felt like all the time....

So good luck and I hope things get better really soon!!!!
