Down the Hatch

IUI #1 (and hopefully "and only") is done. It was terrible. I won't horrify everyone with too many details, but basically the insemination induced body-bending cramps resulting in nausea and, um..other stuff the cramps can induce...for nearly 45 minutes. I mean, I was dizzy, sweating, shaking...it was not a pretty sight. WHY? Has this happened to anyone else before? S. also had some bad insems where the cramping was really painful. But this..this was just...enough to make you never want to be pregnant!

Annnddd..to top off the weirdness, the first time the midwife looked at the sperm under the microscope, the sperm were all DEAD. Not moving. Nothing. So she checked again and then...magic! There were a ton of them swimming around. Strange, strange, strange.

All in all, it's a day I am glad is over.

And now we wait.

I had lots of terrible IUIs like that. They were so AWFUL.

Funny thing is that when I actually had Riley and had the cramps after birth while breastfeeding, immediately I was thrown back into all those bad IUIs.

I hope this one works and you never have to feel that again!

Thinking of you!! After my IUI's I was usually down for the count as well...not as bad as what you describe but I usually came home and got into bed.

Good luck! I've been lurking around your blog for some time now and my partner and I are getting ready to start! Your blog has been inspirational (and this one slightly scary...)

But thank you both for sharing!

Swim, boys, swim!

PS - I had 5 IUIs and never anything like that. But, also, I didn't have particularly bad cramping after my HSG or endometrial biopsy. I wonder if the endometriosis would make it more crampy?

Sorry it was so awful. Yuck. But I'm crossing my fingers for you now!

I've had bad cramping paired with being lightheaded with an insem. Hopefully it will only take this try!!

Hoping that IUI is all you need! That kind of cramping usually comes with using sperm that isn't washed...not saying that's what happened, but I HOPE not.

Thats horrible! I had know idea that that happened, I've never had anything but mild cramps afterwards.

All the best for this cycle, I'm holding thumbs for you. And I hope you feel better soon.

My partner and I have followed your blog for a while now. I have had 5 IUIs and they all went great but no pregnancy. I just recently had my 6th and had the same cramping/nausea/hot flashes as you. I even had a little cramping the 2nd day...read that it could be the results of the trigger shot, or the "one" that works! Hope the swimmers do their job!!!
