Great in '08!

I really super-de-duperly love my dog. Not only is he cute to look at, he's the snuggliest dog on the planet and the biggest love muffin ever. Ringo is his name, and we adopted him from the Animal Control shelter (where they put the dogs to sleep) in Brooklyn. It was a scary place, and he was really scrawny and ugly when we adopted him, but somehow saw through that to the cuteness. We had no idea how cute he's really be.

Now we're afraid that we've wasted all our cuteness on our dog, and our baby might be..not cute. We do not have a baby picture of our donor, like some of the other donors we used did, so we really don't know. We're betting on S.'s genes being the dominant ones so that we have a baby that's recognizable. We did our best to match the donor to me, but I guess you just never know. I try not to think about those things too much, but I feel it's probably something I'll have to answer soon when I start telling a lot of people I work with. As far as I know, there are lesbians at school, but not ones whose partner is pregnant, so I guess I'll be the first. Hopefully I can dodge most of the questions that make people think and probably make them a tad bit uncomfortable, but I'm really fine with answering them all the same.

Happy New Year!! Here's what we ate, besides the 5-course French dinner:

It's a "Bouche de Noel," or Yule Log. Our friend Stacey made it, and wouldn't you say it's ridiculously amazing for her first one?? Stacey is also going to be S.'s doula, and the baby's due date is her birthday, so we think of her as good luck. She claims she needed a head start in giving S. gestational diabetes (joke). Speaking of which, S. has decided that officially, none of her pants fit her. This weekend she seems to have warped into a truly pregnant lady (peeing, weird cravings, etc.).

baby indigoscot looks JUST like me. everyone comments on it, and he's a boy so i suppose my family genes were stronger than the donors!! don't worry your babe will have at least some of your traits and WILL of course be cute!

Just wanted to delurk & say that you're not along in fretting over what your baby might look like. For some reason, I've been really preoccupied with just this. We don't have a picture of our donor either & I somehow feel like all the cute baby genes have been used up & we'll end up with a kid who's got "character." It seems so shallow, but not having any visual reference about the other half of DNA, I think it's perfectly normal to think about.

Our Maggie came from the CACC (in Manhattan). We have probably already bonded over this.

We also didn't have a baby photo of our donor (and the descriptions of "brown hair & brown eyes", as you know, are none too helpful). Plus, we clearly used a great, great deal of our cute capital on Maggie Mae. Yet, as you know, we ended up with the Cutest Baby Ever. I had faith that Co's genes would be dominant (she's dark) and while I'm sure we'd see similarities to the donor if we had a clue what he looked like, to me he has plenty of Co's features, and the family is bowled over by how much he looks like her brother. :-)

I agree with "possiblymaybe." It's normal to wonder what the baby will look like. We had no idea what the donor looked like, but he must be handsome based on the adorable baby we got.

Your dog is SOOO cute! ...and don't worry, I don't think your pup used up all of the cuteness!

As a fellow "pound puppy" owner, I must say that I was skeptical of our mutt's cuteness factor, at first. But now I think he's the most handsome dog I know (tied with Ringo Dingo, of course!). I wouldn't worry about how the baby's gonna look...S is beauuuuutiful, so it will be the dominant looks factor, I'm sure. And now I'm going to go ask Mike if he ate our piece of the bouche yet, so that I can at least live vicariously through his taste buds!

Your endless love will make your baby very cute. The dog will still be a competitor for cutest, though.

It was weird not to know what our baby would look like. But he's SO cute, despite our cute dog.

Hurray for symptoms.

Beans, a yule log is chocolate cake, usually rolled with chocolate mousse, but since SP can't have raw eggs, they used raspberry jam. The mushrooms on it are made out of merengue...don't they look real???

I love your dog! And I'm excited that you have a snowblower - we got one this year and it is the best thing ever!!

This is awkward and weird, I'm sure, but I have a strange request/thing to talk with you guys about and if one of you wanted to e-mail me at judecorp at gmail, that would be cool.

If not, that's cool too!

Congrats on 2nd trimester!

I used a known donor (I'm 7 weeks preggers)... and I'm blonde/pale/blue-eyed and he's got black hair and nearly black eyes... I've come to terms with the fact that the baby will look nothing like me... but at times, I also find that fact very hard! I always imagined baby would look like me... and now I know it won't. But in the end, our relationship withour donor was more important than coloring.

I've read your entire blog over the last two days!
My partner and I are starting IVF and I'm looking for other blogs where lesbian couples are going through the process. If you can help me out that would be great as it's very time-consuming to plow through them all!
BTW, I attend a support group,'women planning biological children', at the GLBT Center in NYC and last night as we were discussing blogs with lesbians doing IVF, someone said "have your read The Cutest Little Babymakers in Town"?
I had to laugh b/c I just finished the last post right before I came to the meeting!
You two have more than a few women at the group who've been following you and are Soooo happy you are finally pregnant after your long journey!
